MELANIE DORTA MISS MIAMI TROPIC TEEN 2013
Most people think that when they win a crown it automatically changes, betters you, but what they seize to understand is that it is not the crown that betters you, it is what you do with your crown that does. I've become a completely new person because of the Miss Miami Tropic pageant and in the best way possible. I've met so many great people because of this pageant and have been able to participate in numerous events, from collecting money for the Children's Miracle network to standing on a float in a parade as all the little girls look at you & turn to say "mommy look at the princess's!" I can't tell you how amazing that feeling is and how much it made me want to be the person those little girls saw. I also had the pleasure of meeting the kind and very talented Kirsten Regalado and because of her was able to do a fashion show for Kiki Hamann Couture exclusively for the Gucci family! Furthermore, If it weren't for Miss Miami Tropic I would have never joined D.A.M.A. School or let alone met my beautiful, inspiring mentor Damaris Aguiar, or had met Ms. Rose, one of the most pure-hearted & loving individuals I have ever came across. I can't even begin to explain how much both of these women mean to me and the impact they've made in my life, I will forever be grateful for you both, I love you guys so much. I'd also like to give thanks to Desiree and Bernie for all the hard work they put in to make this pageant successful & for helping us queens. Id like to as well take a moment to thank Melissa Fernandez, my dearest friend.. No my sister, for helping so much through out this year, you're tough on me but I now you do it with good intentions, I love you and I am extremely grateful for everything you have done for me. Last but not least, id like to thank my family for always supporting me, my mom & Charlie for taking me everywhere I needed to go & putting up with all my other craziness & my dad for always keeping me sane. I love you all. Finally, to my next successor, love yourself because you can't be an example for anyone with out first being the best you can be, represent you're title well & take advantage of the amazing people that have now become your family

QUEENS OF 2012
On October 14th 2012 I was crowned Miss Miami Tropic; never did I think it would be such a self-fulfilling experience. My year was filled with life changing opportunities and challenges that only by being Miss Miami Tropic was I able to accomplish them, from being honored to walk with the men that risked their life for this country in the Veterans Day parade, to feeding the homeless on thanksgiving morning. To the Miss Miami Tropic organization, miss rose and Desiree thank you for everything you have thought me in my year as queen. To my parents thank you for always believing in me and pushing me too always live out my dreams.
A year ago, I was on this stage competing for Miss Miami Tropic Teen. It is unbelievable how quickly time goes by. Miss Miami Tropic has given me so many opportunities. I have had the chance to become a better person by doing community services. I have participated in fashion shows for the American Association of Diabetes, Breast Cancer, and the City of Hialeah. I love to see the smiles on kids face during the Christmas and Veterans parade. It was a great experience to volunteer at the animal shelter during Valentine’s Day and be part of the March for Dimes. The greatest feeling in this world is to know that you are dedicating your time to help others. And that is what Miss Miami Tropic is all about. Beauty pageants are not only about the appearance and wearing a crown; it is a lot more than that. I want to thank Miss Rose and Desire for giving me this opportunity and opening so many doors in my life. Damaris, thank you for being a great coach and inspiration. Thank you Kirsten Regalado for everything you have done; inviting me to events, training me and for all the advices. The most important people in my life, mom and dad, thank you for going on and beyond for me, for being such great supporters. I will not be here if it wasn’t for you two. I want to thank everyone else who has helped me through this unforgettable journey. I will cherish these memories for a lifetime. To the next Miss Miami Tropic, enjoy your year. It goes by like a blink of an eye. You are all winners by just being up on this stage. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
Veronica Alvarez Farewell Speech:
This has been an amazing year for me. The year in which I fulfilled my dream of becoming a “real” princess!I have found joy in helping others, and discovered that we all can make a difference in our lives and that of others if we try.
I want to say thank you to my Mom and Dad for their constant support. To Miss Rose for the opportunity of participating and being part of the Miss Miami Tropic family.
Thank you to all of the incredible people who I met on this great journey for your encouragement, and love.
A sad farewell.
Being your Ms. Miami Tropic 2012 has been one of the most important and wonderful experiences of my life, and I feel very fortunate to have been, and still be, a part of this wonderful family. Not only have I establish friendships along the way with my sister queens, but I have also learned many important lessons in life. From the beginning of my reign I immediately participated in events very dear to my heart. We attended veterans’ Day and Holiday parades, River walk festivals, helped rescue animals at the shelter, served food to the homeless, helped raise funds for a great children’s cause, and many other fun and heart-warming activities that have left a beautiful memory in my heart. It has been my true pleasure being your Ms. Miami Tropic 2012 Queen, not only as a role model, but also as ambassador of my City to help cultivate love among each other, help raise awareness about our community needs and great causes, and instill values onto others to follow in the right footsteps to always lend a helping hand with a smile. Thank you for this wonderful, unforgettable year.
With all my love,
I could have never asked for a better year as Mrs. Miami Tropic International. My community involvement became much stronger as my circle of friends became even wider in scope.
Through fashion shows, interviews and appearances with my sister queens and princesses, I supported the adoption of pets of Miami Animal Services and Animal Humane Society and Kiki Hamann Fashion Show, the fashion fight for Cancer Research for Children, the Fusion Fashion Show for Starlight Children’s Foundation of Florida, the projects of the Philippine American Cultural Heritage in Okeechobee City, Florida through The Circle of FRIENDS of South Florida, Inc., the Miami Metropolitan International Fashion Week, the campaign against bullying and child obesity of Exploit 2013, the feeding of the homeless by Miami Rescue Mission, the gift giving and promoting cultural awareness of The Circle of FRIENDS of Florida, Inc. and Philippine American Cultural Foundation, the campaign against battered women and abuse children of Philippine American Association of Treasure Coast and Safe Space Foundation, the parade of FIU Parent and Student Day, and last but not the least the fundraising and donations for the typhoon victims of Supertyphoon Haiyan in the Philippines, my mother country. These are just some of the many memories that I will cherish forever after my reigning year.
I would like to thank the officers and members of The Circle of FRIENDS of South Florida, Inc. for all their support aand endless community outreach: Mody and Butch Tenay, Edwin Dominado, Dina Hussein, Fe Orbigoso, Amante and Zenaida Tesalona, Sid and Terry Estrada, among others. I would like to thank Maxine Victor, Dedrick Santiago, Mureen Allon, Angel Seidler, Rafael Rincon, Johnny Villaronga, Daisy McGuinnis, Atty Colby Morgan, Allied Kitchen and Bath, Hannah my Little Princess, and all my dear friends whom I have found long time friends who cared so much for my projects and the community.
Thank you to my directors, Miss Rose and Desiree Sardo who have become a part of my family, have known me for over nine years and have helped me every step of the way. A warm appreciation and gratitude to my sponsors Dr. Alberto, Angel and Angelica Pierini of Pierini Esthetic Center in Doral, Florida, Sears Home Appliance Showroom President Mike Myers, Penny Roberts of Arbonne Cosmetics, Bay Liberty and San Jose Angels Tim Piney II, Atty. Jeff Shapiro of Arnstein and Lher, LLP, and One Philippines magazine. Each one of you had helped my reigning year in different ways. To all my sister queens and models, I had the most incredible year of my life with you all.
Finally, to my number one supporters: my husband Larry and my son Michael John, I am always proud of you. Michael, you made it to the Presidential Scholarship in college and have been there through everything. Larry, you have known me for the past 21 years, you are my rock. Without you both I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
To the new queens, I wish you all the best. Make a difference and embrace the power and responsibilities of the crown that will be in you.
